Former Glitnor Group CEO David Flynn has embarked on a cycling journey across Europe to raise funds for mental health charities.Departing from Stockholm, Sweden on 26 August, Flynn aims to reach Valletta, Malta by the end of September, a journey spanning approximately 4,175 kilometres.The goal of this extraordinary endeavour is to generate support for mental health initiatives in Sweden, Malta and the UK.The cycling enthusiast has established a GoFundMe page for donations, setting an initial target of £9,000.Currently, Flynn has secured a commendable £6,820 from 77 generous donors.
A personal perspective on the cause
“I’ve attempted some crazy things in my time for charity but this one beats the lot,” he said.Flynn added that he is orignially from the UK, but also calls Sweden and Malta home.“Each country has its own charm,” Flynn stated, but they all face similar challenges, especially concerning mental health.“I believe everybody knows somebody impacted by mental health issues of one kind or another, some seriously impacting their lives and those who love them.“So now I have an opportunity to help make a change (no matter how small) and do something to try and help those suffering with mental mealth issues and their loved ones in each of my ‘home’ countries.”Flynn resigned as Glitnor Group CEO in December, transitioning to a board role in early 2023.At the time, Flynn stated that this change would enable him to continue shaping the company’s strategy, while also providing a better balance between work and family life.Additionally, it would offer him more time to focus on his investment projects both within and outside the iGaming sector.
Funds for three charities
Flynn has given himself 34 days to complete his cycling challenge, factoring in three rest days.He anticipates cycling between 100 to 170 kilometres daily, navigating a variety of terrains and weather conditions.Flynn aims to divide the funds raised equally among three mental health charities.In Malta, funds will aid the Richmond Foundation, which provides mental healthcare.In Sweden, donations will benefit Mind.se, which supports helpline volunteers and advocacy.In the UK, Mind.org.uk will receive support for their helpline services and mental health advocacy.“Every penny, cent and kronor helps, so please help me reach my target,” Flynn stated.“This will be as much a mental challenge than a physical one for me, so please dig deep because I know I will be,” he added.Supporters can also track Flynn’s progress and get regular updates on his European journey on his LinkedIn page.
