Leading global online betting and gaming brand Betway has today announced that former Irish rugby union star Peter Stringer (pictured) is joining its portfolio of ambassadors.
The deal will see the ex-scrum half provide insight to rugby fans ahead of the Rugby World Cup in France starting September 8. The former Munster player will pen regular blog posts that will be hosted on the brand’s editorial hub, the Betway Insider.
A legend of Irish rugby, Stringer played in two World Cups and made 98 appearances for his country in a decorated international career. Known as the master of the ‘tap tackle’, he won a Six Nations Grand Slam in 2009, three Triple Crowns and two Heineken Cups with Munster. Stringer retired from professional rugby in 2018.
Stringer joins the Super Group-owned brand’s impressive roster of sports ambassadors, which includes the likes of Ireland football legend Robbie Keane and former England Cricket player Kevin Pietersen.
“I’m delighted to be joining one of the world’s biggest betting brands as an official ambassador,” Stringer said. “I look forward to helping rugby fans garner valuable insights with my thoughts on the game’s biggest tournaments, starting with the biggest of all, the World Cup.”
“I am thrilled to welcome Peter Stringer as our new Irish rugby ambassador,” the Chief Executive Officer for Betway, Anthony Werkman, said. “Peter adds fantastic value to our rugby offering and is well known with fans all over the world. I’m sure his opinion and thorough understanding of the international game is going to be hugely valuable to readers of his regular column.”
